Before the leaves start to turn and fall creeps back into our lives, it’s time to create a summer memory so special the family will be talking about it years from now. Transform a warm summer evening into another world with a few themed ideas and a little imagination. From the comfort of your own home, you can create the feeling of traveling abroad (without the jet lag!)
It’s time to “Go Crazy” or “Go Casual” – just get going! If this sounds too daunting, or too much work, enlist the help of a fun friend or create a neighborhood potluck. Remember, it doesn’t have to be perfect to be memorable. Sometimes, the best plans fall together at the last minute. There’s nothing like the magic of candles and fresh garden flowers to create a unique table OR grab the camping gear and bust out the lanterns.
Here are a few ideas to get the ball rolling for your next fantastic themed summer meal!
Mexican Fiesta
It’s Taco Tuesday! Or, Friday. Hey, make it whatever day you’d like. Grab a piñata from the party store, get some chips and salsa out, add a little guacamole. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even give some fajitas a go.
Island Fever
An island vacation is calling to you. Some kebabs of meat, shrimp, and veggies on the grill with a little Polynesian sauce, some pineapple slices, a little fruit salad, and even some seafood can make for a tropical escape.
King’s Medieval Feast
Have a castle of a feast with your friends. Since you probably aren’t going to grab a leg of mutton at the grocery store, try some turkey legs and juicy steak for the grill. Corn on the cob, bread and butter, and even some raw veggies with your favorite dips can make a feast fit for all the kings and queens of the realm. For even more fun, have everyone dress the part!
Japanese Dragon Night
Sushi, teriyaki chicken, seafood, a hibachi grill on the porch, Miso soup, and even some fried rice can start off a fabulous Japanese meal for your friends. Don’t forget the tea, paper dragons, and chopsticks!
Add more to the atmosphere by playing themed music to match your meals. Spotify or Pandora have a plethora of playlists. Dress up or dress down – just do something before the summer slips away.
