No doubt, life can be overwhelming sometimes, but with a little self-discipline we can shut out the noisy world around us. Between kids, work, our spouses, and daily chores, we need to learn to keep things quiet on the inside. Here are just a few simple things you can do to make your life a lot more peaceful.
Don’t let people steal from you
If we had a million dollars worth of jewelry at home, wouldn’t we take precautions to protect it? Yet, we allow people to steal our precious time from us all day long. The best way to start finding inner peace is to block out those annoying, manipulating, demands that pile on the stress. There’s a saying, “When you allow the wrong people in your house, stuff will come up missing like Joy, Peace, Love, Hope, Faith…” (Yes, people steal these things). Protect yourself and don’t let anyone steal from you.
Say NO!
Sure, there are things we absolutely need to do, but we can people please our way to exhaustion if we don’t put ourselves first. Cue the flight attendant, “Put your oxygen mask on first, then assist your child.” We are the ones to suffer the consequences until we learn to say no. Decline without the guilt. You don’t even have to give a reason. Just say, “NO, thank you for asking, but I can’t.” If you want more time for yourself, the best lesson you can learn is to say NO!
Turn off the electronics
It’s hard to find peace anywhere when your phone is constantly beeping with every social media post, text, or call. Our computers can be just as bad, shooting emails at us like a machine gun. It’s time to take cover. Disconnecting from the tech-world for a while will allow you more uninterrupted time to yourself. If you can, set a time limit for the computer. Then when that time is up, walk away. When you stick to a routine, people will know when you are available and respect the time you’re not.
Find your peaceful place, then build a fortress around it and don’t let anyone breach those castle doors. You will be much happier when the noise, noise, noise, goes buh-bye for a few hours.
